Sweet Irene - Sidewalking the Universe
Out of Charlotte, North Carolina comes the flavor of Sweet Irene. Using a range of sounds from hip hop to roots to rock, Irene brings to the ears hints of Erykah Badu or Lovage. “Sidewalking the Universe” has a rhythm that recalls classic hip hop - including the James Brown “oww!” sample - accompanied by some sultry echoing guitar riffs. The glassy instrumentals provide a nice surface for Irene’s sweet voice to glide over. Check out the new album, “Dust and the War On Sound,” which was released late last year. Extra credit:
