Mason Lindahl - Serrated Man Sound

Hello friends! May I be the 3 millionth person to throw you an unnecessarily cheery, belated Happy New Year’s on this sluggish Monday morning. And…let me follow by saying it’s great to be back in the EOTB routine. Hopefully you jammed out to my mix while we were parted these many days. Speaking of mixes: Just before the hiatus I stumbled across this great song from local musician Mason Lindahl off Delicious Scopitone’s epic year-end mix Ecliptics Odious One - which I wish I’d discovered before releasing my own mix as they share a few songs. I’m rather disappointed this guy Lindahl wasn’t on my radar earlier, though I’ve definitely seen the name before. His most recent album Serrated Man Sound was released in late 2009 and covers a range of styles from dark, gritty Americana (think Felice Brothers) to gentle acoustic melodies that sound like Simon & Garfunkel with finger-picking (i.e. today’s selection) - and it doesn’t stop there. On my trip to Cleveland, today’s tune was a perfect play for shutting my eyes to block out the noisy airplane or lying victim to a food coma on my Grandma’s soft living room carpet. The song’s time-passing qualities are artfully reflected - in my opinion - by the sound of the drum stick dropping and bouncing on the drum towards the end of the song. Call me crazy, but it’s totally that sound you’d hear in a room of bored people (think pencil eraser meets desk) incorporated into a really sweet song. Regardless, I hope this blissful tune lightens the frustrations of your first day back to reality. Go get em people!
