    Fiveng - Summer Nights

After a full month of horrible neglect towards my Gmail account I made an effort this weekend to go through the pages and pages of submissions and press releases that piled up. It’s hard for me to ignore these emails though, because occasionally there’s something really great waiting for me. This time around honors go to Fiveng, the creation of solo San Francisco artist Nicholas Ng. You, me and your grandma may all be bedroom pop musicians these days, but it’s an approach to music that really works for establishing careers. Now I don’t really know anything about Fiveng, but judging from the complexity of his songs, he seems focused on attaining a certain aesthetic with his work - something that can be hurt by collaborating with others. In all of his songs, there is this theme of high-pitched, ringing sounds which spice up the atmosphere around his foggy vocals. It’s a great dynamic that ties his songs together, establishing a signature. Look forward to hearing more from this guy!
