    Real Estate - Snow Days

On Sunday I joined internet celeb IAE and her awesome roommate on a fun daycation to the birthplace of EOTB: Santa Cruz, CA. The mission: Witness the amazing sounds of Real Estate at intimate locale The Crepe Place. I cannot stress intimate enough. Seeing shows at The CP consists of standing directly in front of the band on the floor - house party style. Everything is laid back. The band-mates are chilling having beers, and there’s a refreshing lack of hipsters and scene-peeps. While I wasn’t so hot on the opening acts, Real Estate lived up to their hype with a stellar performance. My highlight being when they played one of my favorites, “Black Lake.”

Many of us are now aware of the band’s brand new debut album - and if you’re not, you really should be. The record’s summery surf-pop jams sound surprisingly good in this chillier time of year. But this may be the band’s intention if you check out the closing number “Snow Days,” where frontman Martin Courtney’s lyrics take you to the Jersey shore on an icy day in February. Quite an off-season hangout I must say. Maybe that’s why they could rock a surf town in late November.
