Sleep Whale - Make Another Picture

I only recently became familiar with Sleep Whale, although it seems they’ve built up some noise over the past few years in their hometown Denton, TX and surrounding region. The band’s complex weave of guitars, cello, violin, percussion and a variety of other sounds is the product of the band’s core duo, Joel North and Bruce Blay. Their debut full length album Houseboat - released earlier this month - has a great mix of songs - both instrumental and vocally decorated, both relatable and experimental - but all around worth exploring. “Make Another Picture” is one of their more approachable tunes, although it’s dynamic structure and strange sound effects keep it pleasantly weird right up to it’s climactic ending. Much is true for another favorite of mine, “Cotton Curls.” Go! Investigate!
