Surfer Blood - Take It Easy

While following the events of CMJ the other week, I and many others were introduced to Surfer Blood, a buzzing band from Florida. Urban music festivals like CMJ, SXSW and SF’s own Noise Pop Festival are known for attracting the attention of some important people. Of course this band really took advantage of the situation and hit NY with 10 shows during the fest. But that’s what you have to do - you hit those bloggers, fans and industry folk with all you have and let the measure talent seal your fate. One of Surfer Blood’s will-be hit songs “Take It Easy” pretty much explains why the band is blowing up on the internet post-CMJ. It’s a beautiful blend of everything “in” right now, yet it doesn’t feel forced. Look for their debut album Astro Coast which comes out in January.
