    White Denim - Paint Yourself

Last week Austin’s White Denim finally released their latest album Fits in the US. Their genre-blending style of rock slowly grew on me with their last album Exposion, but with this new record it didn’t take long for me to approve. Lead singer James Petralli has a voice that not only sounds like, but also has the powerful capabilities of Black Key’s vocalist Dan Auerbach. While the great singing made it easy to like this trio’s work, Petralli wouldn’t sound the same without the masterfully arranged instrumentals to back him up. Quite possibly my favorite cut off the new album is “Paint Yourself.” The song has that classic sound to it - almost an Allman Brothery essence. One familiar element being the swinging, upbeat tempo, which is snappier than a hipster in a bike accident. Second being the tight playing style, with quick guitar riffs and syncopated keyboard that pop under the smooth vocals. If you’re looking for a hot listen, then check out more of this band’s diverse offerings.
