    Atlas Sound - Ruben (Traditional) *fixed

    I’ve intended to post about Atlas Sound’s new Logos album, but since the project was leaked a long time ago, many others have pretty much said my piece for me…which is that it’s a damn good listen, in case you don’t bother reading any other music blogs for some silly reason. Of course, then I stumbled across the less hyped Rough Trade EP, a limited edition bonus disc to Logos. The six track icing on an already delicious cake includes two “re-imaginings” - including an electronic version of the glorious tune “Criminals” - some unreleased numbers and one really great cover. “Ruben” is a song from old timey folk singer Elizabeth Cotten whom Atlas Sound’s Bradford Cox honors justly in his rendition. It’s amazing to hear everyone’s favorite “Walkabout” and then this tune and think of how this guy could be so multi-genuine…that’s right. Plus, let’s not forget the whole Deerhunter thing! If you’re planning to buy his new album, go through Rough Trade to get the EP as well. It’s worth it.
