Port O’Brien - Love Me Through

Today marks the release of Port O’Brien’s third album Threadbare. While there were recent changes to the band, the core sound of Port O’Brien stayed pretty similar in this new release. I don’t think this album blows away their previous records, but their sound has definitely matured over the past few years. They’ve dropped the basement-style recordings for more polished tracks that will reach a wider audience - yet, the simple folk stylings and occasional outbursts of rock and roll are still what makes this band solid. One standout on the album is “Love Me Through,” a bare bones tune that could pass for a Neil Young cover. This may not be one of their hit singles on the blogosphere, but its the type of accessible song that makes music fans want to pick out the cool guitar part and bust this out at a campfire - which to me is still an effect worthy of praise.
