    Islands - Switched On

There’s been a lot of buzz from ex-Unicorns band members this year. First there was the brilliant Clues album (listen here!) from former member Alden Penner this spring, and on Tuesday we will see a new album from the other two-thirds of the band - the much admired Islands. While a completely different direction then Clues, Islands’ new album Vapours does share the same goal of putting out a fluid collection of tunes full of refreshing sounds and dynamic song arrangements. The album opener “Switched On” features a rigid instrumental backing - using all the instruments in a more percussive sense - which slowly begins to thaw when singer Nick Thorburn opens his pipes. That and much more on this highly recommended album!
