    Megafaun - The Longest Day

I’m mega fond of Megafaun and since this bluegrassy number of theirs has been bouncing around in my head for the last few weeks, naturally it’s time it joined the ranks at EOTB. The Durham, North Carolina group released their latest album Gather, Form & Fly last month and it’s right up there with the other fantastic indie-folk music coming out lately. Megafaun makes an impressive effort to mix it up throughout the album and they really hit on some great sounds. “The Longest Day” is more of a bluegrass number, “Kaufman’s Ballad” is seeped in CSNY-style harmonies and “Impressions of the Past” is a mostly lyrics-free, experimental collage of styles set in different movements…to name a few. Better than just a great listen, this album will definitely surprise you. It’s the right mix of familiar and forward to stand out from the crowd.
