    The XX - Islands

From the first moment I heard the debut album from The XX, I knew I had found something to savor. I figured I could enjoy it to myself for a little while, but word has traveled fast and so it’s time for me to help fuel their fire. Recently this group of South Londoners have taken the pop music scene from out of nowhere with their hypnotizing playing style. Their approach to pop music is not the candy-coated dance party kind though; it’s much too down-tempo and dynamic. Instead, you can lose yourself in the music through their minimalist beats which at times get blurred out by a passing fog of ambient sounds. Sounds interesting right? XX is definitely an album that will stand out in 2009 and hopefully the first of many great records from this young group.
