Hesta Prynn - Le Coq Aux Folles

During my amazing time at Bonnaroo I was fortunate to meet some really cool people. One particular individual was Julie Potash a.k.a. Hesta Prynn - though I did not know it at the time. I mentioned my blog and she was kind enough to hit me up this week with a preview of her new EP In Civil Shepard. Potash is also a member of the acclaimed hip-hop group Northern State who have released three albums which included support from legends such as ?uestlove, Pete Rock and Adrock from the Beastie Boys. After reading her bio it made sense how she got such superb artists to contribute to her new solo EP, including Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara, Tim Harrington of Les Savy Fav, Eric Gardner of Gnarls Barkley and New York indie rockers Bear Hands. “Le Coq Aux Folles” - which roughly translates to “the cockerel to the madwomen” - is an engaging French pop-style number with a fresh chime-laden beat. Hesta Prynn’s hip hop past is evident on this track, lending some extra attitude to her lyrical delivery. Overall, her EP is a solid collection of pop creations and worth checking out!
