Sleepy Sun - Snow Goddess (Daytrotter Session - 5/15/2009)

It’s hard to believe that less than a year ago I was weaving my way through SF’s homogenous hipster youth to find a perfect vantage point to watch high school comrades and their Santa Cruz sourced crew play their first record release party in the cavernous confines of a warehouse turned makeshift venue. Cloaked in psychedelic patterns projected on stage, this humble band proceeded to blow the crowd away with their fantastic vocals, tight grooves and wailing guitars. In the better part of a year since this exclusive event took place Sleepy Sun has made quite a name from opening for The Fleet Foxes, headlining SF’s Noise Pop festival, receiving honorable mentions at SXSW (Esquire and Rolling Stone) and touring North America and Europe!  If that’s not enough for you, yesterday they were featured in a Daytrotter session showcasing their acoustic abilities, which includes an unreleased track called “Mating Season.” The amazing reception Sleepy Sun has experienced as of late was cause enough for a major release of their first record Embrace on ATP Recordings and bigger, badass release parties in LA and SF:

June 17: Los Angeles, Eagle Rock Community Center

June 19: San Francisco, Great American Music Hall

If you dig their music then come out to one of these shows and welcome the boys home from a long tour. You won’t be disappointed!
